Montezuma Natioanl Wildlife Refuge, NY

On Tuesdau, September 5th we spent the morning at Montezuma Natioanl Wildlife Refuge east of Seneca Falls NY and bordering I-90.

The refuge Wildlife Drive was a 3.6 mile trek on a gravel and dusty road where you're instructed not to park and leave your car. We birded the expanse of wetlands from the vehicle and saw a nice amount of species.

Common Gallinule:

 Mallard (female):

Lesser Yellowlegs:

Least Bittern:

In addition of the Wildlife Drive we drove a little north to the Sandhill Crane tract where we saw Northern Harrier and Peregrine Falcon hunting over the wetlands. Trumpeter Swan, American Coot, Common Gallinule, and Pied-Billed Grebe among others dabbled in the water. Montezuma NWR was a great place despite the unusual heat wave, but the birds didn't seem to care.

Pied-billed Grebe:
